Workplace wellness and creating a culture that supports employees overall health is a non-negotiable these days.

Why, because the research is telling us so.

Here is a small curated list of articles that speak to the research and the need for workplaces to make employee wellness a priority.

From Harvard Business Review:

Excerpt from the Article:

"What’s required now is something called “sustainable engagement.” The key factor, the study finds, is a work environment that more fully energizes employees by promoting their physical, emotional and social well-being. I’d add to that mental and spiritual well being — or more specifically, the added energy derived from the capacity for absorbed focus and a strong sense of purpose."

From Positive Psychology Program:

Excerpt from the Article:

"Positive Psychology has shown how positive emotions are linked with numerous benefits including improved health, wellbeing, longevity, and a greater quality of life. On the flip side anger, anxiety, depression, and worry are related to poor health outcomes."

The Future of Wellness at Work

Check out this report titled "The Future of Wellness at Work" put together by Global Wellness Institute. It's a bit of a read, but well worth your while.

From The New York Times

This article titled Why You Hate Work, talks about what is NOT effective in the workplace today, and some simple ways to really improve the culture.

From the article:

"Purpose: Employees who derive meaning and significance from their work were more than three times as likely to stay with their organizations — the highest single impact of any variable in our survey. These employees also reported 1.7 times higher job satisfaction and they were 1.4 times more engaged at work.

We often ask senior leaders a simple question: If your employees feel more energized, valued, focused and purposeful, do they perform better? Not surprisingly, the answer is almost always “Yes.” Next we ask, “So how much do you invest in meeting those needs?” An uncomfortable silence typically ensues."
