The Wood Between Worlds

The wood between worlds is a beautiful place,
Yet it can also be loathsome.

It is an in-between sanctuary;
A holy place, a place where time stops,

Away from the has-beens of the past, and the not-yets of the future.

A place where our soul can be laid bare: raw, open, unencumbered.

It's like a blank canvas, just waiting to be painted.

There's something comforting, also frightening, and disconcerting about this place.

We find comfort in the belief that anything can happen;

Yet fear and anxiety descends on us like the thundering of horses;
As though we might drown in the vast ocean of freedom and nothingness.

This place is the vortex where overwhelm, anxiety, innovation, inspiration and ideas converge.

But when we learn to sit with the dissonance,
While becoming familiar with the chaos of the unknown;
We can find refuge in the sanctity of this place.
Taking comfort that nothing is forever.

 This is the birthplace of creativity.

The wood between worlds is from The Magician's Nephew (C.S. Lewis) - one of the Chronicles of Narnia books. If you have never read it, I highly recommend picking up a copy. It's a fantastic read, even as an adult.

This is a quote from the book;

"Make your choice, adventurous Stranger;
Strike the bell and bide the danger,
Or wonder, til it drives you mad,
What would have followed if you had."

I've never heard of Laura Barrett, but after I wrote this I did a search for "wood between worlds" to see what came up, and I found this little treasure. I especially like that she's a Canadian indie singe-songwriter.

This song beautiful.
